The Liberal Gun Club is the Apolitical Alternative to the NRA

The Liberal Gun Club (LGC)

Liberal Gun ClubOk, so it’s probably not exactly what you’re thinking. But maybe pretty close.

The Liberal Gun Club is actually non-political or apolitical (at the moment), as they focus on training and education. The Liberal Gun Club’s Mission is simple:

The mission of The Liberal Gun Club is to provide a voice for gun-owning liberals and moderates in the national conversation on gun rights, gun legislation, firearms safety, and shooting sports. We serve as a national forum for all people, irrespective of their personal political beliefs, to discuss firearms ownership, firearms use, and the enjoyment of firearms-related activities free from the destructive elements of political extremism that dominate this subject on the national scale. We also actively develop and foster a variety of programs for the purpose of firearms training and firearms safety education, for both gun owners and non-gun owners. (As listed here on

In a nutshell, they exist to protect and advocate for “gun rights, gun legislation, firearms safety, and shooting sports.” As a Gun Owner and crossbow enthusiast, I want to assist efforts that ensure my rights are upheld. However, as a Liberal Progressive in my politics, I support politicians like Bernie Sanders and oppose the right-wing fanatical rhetoric of the NRA. The Liberal Gun Club was created for this purpose, for people “like” me (to a point).

Extreme Political Diversity among Liberal Gun Club Members

The Liberal Gun Club’s membership is made up of extremely diverse individuals, who are all over the map politically speaking. As it states on their website,  “our members come from every political ideology – Libertarian, Independent, Democrat, Republican, Green, etc.” Which is why the organization does not take political stands on numerous issues, but rather keeps their focus narrowly upon “gun rights, gun legislation, firearms safety, and shooting sports.” (See the article Who We Are on the LGC Website)

This diversity definitely mingles well with, as we revere true diversity. (See our About page if you don’t understand why this is true.)

After learning about the Liberal Gun Club in recent months, I have decided to join this organization. I plan to write more Blog posts about the experience and look forward to exploring ways to get involved as well as all the membership benefits I will receive. I have a feeling there will be an immediate synergy, as the Club seems to have a similar mindset.

What The Liberal Gun Club Does

Per their website, The Liberal Gun Club conducts four primary activities:

  • We provide a voice to gun owners who do not subscribe to the right-wing rhetoric surrounding firearm ownership by engaging the public on important firearms issues.
  • We provide an online alternative to existing Second Amendment forums, allowing Liberal and Moderate views to be expressed and actively debated.  We encourage well thought out and reasoned positions and discourage personal attacks and angry tirades.
  • We host regular shooting events to promote marksmanship and safety.
  • We have created a Basic Firearms Safety Course and are creating other formal safety programs to promote firearm safety, marksmanship and responsible ownership.
